Two thirds of my way through my "descending cost" rotation and now firmly in to sub £50 territory. This one for this evening:

Thanks Bruce.
It's a 15 Jewel movement which is stamped "c120" if that helps.
Thanks Bruce.

is it gilt? only asking as some from around that time to the mid 50's were Jaeger movements. Jaeger and Smiths worked together very closely and swapped mostly clock movements between them but there were quite a few Jaeger movements that made their way into smiths watches, i used to have one which i sold on TWF a few years ago and it was confirmed as a Jaeger movement by an omega watch maker

It's not gilt, I presume that was used only for their DeLuxe etc models. Here's a picture...

Thanks Bruce, that is very interesting. I had tried to do some research on the "C120" stamp on the movement but without success. Whatever it stands for it doesn't seem to be a calibre number.

one of Jaegers movement designers also went to work for smiths so there are a few other smiths movements with jaeger design cues
the old Smiths factory in Wishaw still exists although its split up into units now.....
the old BSA Scout i am restoring has Jaeger dials with smiths innards and smiths dials with jaeger innards
