No watches for me this month Shocked Shocked the horror of it !!

Decided instead to invest a little in tools that I will be needing as my interest in modding / Tinkering increases . I own screwdrivers but they are a bit naff so plan on upgrading them also on my list is a loupe but the type that can be clipped onto glasses leaving both hands free .

I already have movement holders and case openers , case closers , that little v shaped tool for removing spring bars but what other tools would you suggest ?? What is that one tool you could not do without ? What am i missing in my little collection

I got a puffer free with the case press I bought . Rodico sounds useful though .

Would you suggest some plastic tweezers or are metal ones ok ?

anti magnetic tweezers are a must, but plastic ones can be handy for battery or cells swaps

Regarding the loupe, I have recently seen this type of thing.....

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20-X-Magnifying-Magnifier-Eye-Glass-Loupe-Jeweler-Watch-Repair-with-LED-Light-/172332870191?hash=item281fd6ea2f:g:b5wAAOSwiDFYK9hA

.......and wondered if it would be helpful having the added option of a strong light focused directly on the area you are working on. Might not be suitable John but just an idea.  Very Happy

I was thinking at because I need to wear glasses for reading and close up work that I would try to get something I could clip onto my glasses to save from taking them off each time . May buy both types and see which I like . Currently have one of these but had it years and need a hand to hold it

That's a fair point re the magnification. I just looked and they all seem to be 20x which is odd as they could have varied the magnification strength.

I also just remembered years ago a watchmaker I knew had some sort of visor he used. The modern day equivalent would be something like this which is 10x magnification.

I think though the loupe is the best option, even with Popeye comparisons, but it just takes a while to get used to it.  Very Happy

I agree useful just not sure how many times I would use it but I guess it might be one of those things you buy and use for other reasons ie not just cleaning watch cases and bracelets

I take it you have small pots or a container with sections for keeping various parts safe. Also, what about the surface you are working on. I've read people using panels of foam for example so small screws etc can't bounce out of sight on a table. You probably have these things covered but just a few thoughts in case. Very Happy

I have two types of tops I work on one is the green cutting mat I find it quite useful but normally I put a clean tea towel down on the table . I also have the odd piece of leather off cut from an old jacket I put down then put the watch case on that face down when unscrewing case backs . Could get the odd container though All the gear just no idea 3377044411
