Straps cut and the ends thinned out all glued and clamped together for an hour or two ... time for a cuppa

That's quite a collection of tools
With this being a two piece strap have you a particular watch in mind to use it on? Going by the colour of the leather it would look good on a number of different types of watch.

Sounds intriguing John I will look forward to seeing how you get on with the strap as well as news about the new watch.

That rules out anything vintage then.

Update .. all finished apart from the holes and a keeper to make . When I trimed the edges I noticed the leather was a lighter colour so out came to brown shoe polish and I darkened it up before burnishing the edges.
I used some old thin leather from a coat to line the inside of the strap
First time using screw in rivets on a strap I think it makes the strap look good and I dont need to sew anything now

Looks great John, well done.
I think the screw in rivets work really well and add to the chunky look of the strap. It was also a good idea using thin leather to line the inside of the strap.
Great re-cycling & just imagine how much that strap would cost retail.

I think it looks good John and any reservations you have about it could be kept in mind for the next strap you do.
I do like the rivets though if they came in different colours like black or in steel you may feel they would be a good match for the types of watches you wear. For now though enjoy today's result, definitely worth a lot more than £2.50.

a tiny dab of superglue does the job, most movement stems are held in the crown with itSeikoJohn wrote:I want to turn the screw rivets around so the screw head is showing but worried they may unscrew (paranoia) I do not own lock thread .. any alternative I could use ??

Nice job John, it looks the business.
Reversing the rivets would suit the light coloured leather well.
