I have just bought a nylon nato strap as I want to use the hardware to make my own leather one . As you can see the hardware is all shiny how do I make it dull / brushed. Do I simply rub it with a Green Brillo pad ??

not that east to get a good finish as its so small, but 1000 grit wet and dry carefully drawn in one direction, wet in water with a tiny dab of washing up liquid
