    Junghans Mega Empty Junghans Mega

Well, I saw this being sold as not working but really liked the design and the LCD display so took a chance.

    Junghans Mega <a href=Junghans Mega Image_653" />

Eventually managed to prise the case back open and the battery inside looked clean and there was no sign of any battery leakage on the movement.

    Junghans Mega <a href=Junghans Mega Image_654" />

So, fitted a new battery and the LCD display came on....

    Junghans Mega <a href=Junghans Mega Image_655" />

......but the watch didn't start working.

This is a radio controlled watch and once it is re set like when fitting a new battery it wipes out any previously stored information. Once the new battery is fitted the hands are meant to automatically go to the 12 o'clock position.

Then depressing one of the buttons triggers it seeking the signal to go to the correct time. The other buttons have various functions including toggling the LCD display between displaying seconds or the date.

What I did find fascinating is the transmitter for the signal isn't in the watch, it's in the strap.

I have found various data online about setting the watch up but the watch is unresponsive. I don't know the purpose of the four screws on the case back or if they even have a purpose.

My only other thought was watches that have dual displays can need two rather than one battery. I haven't found anything online about this yet and was reticent about removing the plastic seal & the visible circuit board to see if there was anything underneath.

The watch is possibly just broken or the transmitter in the strap has been damaged though any other thoughts would be welcome. Very Happy

Just as an update, I removed the black plastic cover .....

    Junghans Mega <a href=Junghans Mega Image_656" />

.....and there is some staining on the movement ...... and at certain angles a couple of black spots on the coil.

    Junghans Mega <a href=Junghans Mega Image_657" />

which may mean the watch is totally kaput. Sad  unless a replacement movement could be sourced. On the plastic guard it has W 606 but I'm not as yet finding any information on that code.  I'm also still curious what the purpose of the four screws are so if nothing else I'm enjoying the research. Very Happy

the 4 screw are for removing the from as its a front loader, the dial is bigger than the movement so cant come out the back, chances are the coils is gone or it could just need a clean if its had a battery leak, looking at the 4 screws it wouls appear its already been apart for repair and i suspect its beyond economic repair sadly, although its worth stripping and cleaning, it cant be made worse

Thanks for that. Junghans Mega 3377044411

I had my hopes up when the LCD display came on but not to be unfortunately. Rolling Eyes

It makes sense that the screws are securing the front of the watch. I had started to think they were for the strap in some way. On one side both holes in the lugs for the pin are visible ........

    Junghans Mega <a href=Junghans Mega Image_658" />

..... so I thought the strap was being held in place by the pin just being wedged between the lugs. Regardless of how much leverage is used however the strap won't budge. Evil or Very Mad

I think the watch is destined to join others that have been relegated to various boxes. It was worth taking the chance though as it is a nice watch. Very Happy
