Pulsar V103

While I have been trying to de-clutter this month, with mixed success, I have come across a number of watches.

This one is the Pulsar V103 which Seiko introduced in 1984.

and was solar powered with ten minutes of sunlight apparently being sufficient to work ten days.

The movement is a V103A

and the power is stored in a capacitor

I have left the watch in sunlight and the second hand occasionally advances but I think it's safe to say the capacitor....

....has had its day.

Possibly a replacement could be sourced as beyond it being a smart looking watch ..

.....it also has its place as part of the evolution of technology used in watches.  

unfortunatly that cell is no longer available, the closest you will get size wise is this

it is a higher voltage, but it should stabilize to the correct lower voltage, however looking at you pics the old capacitor appears to have "gassed out"  so really the movement needs stripped to see what the damage is before forking out £20 for a battery

the screw to the left and nearest the stem has signs of corrosion
a nice watch though and rare too

That really is a very nice watch I hope you manage to bring it back to life

Thanks Bruce, that is very helpful.

As the second hand sometimes advances I had hoped that was indicative that the mechanics were ok and the failing was more likely with the power source.

I will do some shopping around for the capacitor code you provided. It may be worth the gamble to see if the watch will start working again.

you will need to check the battery dimensions first....i think they are the same, but you will need to double check
