Another watch storage solution

Post by SeikoJohn on Sun Jan 14 2018, 17:21

Last summer I bought a cabinet and sanded it all down then waxed it etc as seen here

http://thewatch-clockforum.forumotion.co.uk/t767-latest-watch-storage-idea

I have being using the cabinet to keep my watches in but did not really feel the love for it plus everything is on show and recently over the christmas period I have read and heard of a lot of burglaries in the local area which got me thinking I needed something different to keep my watches in .

Bought this from ebay quite cheap I think at £14 delivered

I also bought some pick and pluck foam for £6 . For the grand total of £20 I now have majority of my watches all in one place which is simple to store away from prying eyes and it is easy to transport should I need to .

The pick and pluch also came with a 10mm sheet of foam which is ideal to go over the top of the watches for extra protection ( I have trimmed the edges slightly since taking this photo for a better fit )

Is that not the best direct to be heading Very Happy I like the style and shape and they appeal to me in many ways. Although I have never been diving I have one or two watches that are suitable should I ever take up the sport .

Only thing with that is it’s easier to just grab and get the lot already packaged to go, but I like it just the same

That looks great specially for an outlay of £20.

Organising the foam yourself has allowed sufficient space to accommodate bigger watches with a comfortable gap between them. I think you have done really well and should be quite chuffed with the result.

We're on a mini break at the moment and got a last minute lodge on n Cornwall. I've just come out of a hot tub with my Aragon diver on. About as close to diving as it's got! Divers are great to wear though hated by my family as they reckon I always catch them with it.

Well that went t#*ts up !!

Everytime I looked at the shiny aluminium case I kept thinking it was an invite to anyone to steal . While out shopping this week I came across a battered old briefcase that did not stand out and was in no way shiny so I bought it £2 .

Got it home and today I thought I would take foam out of aluminium case and swop it over ....damn it was too thick the case would not close. Very carefully I started to cut down the thickness ..... Lets just say I now have lots of foam bits in the bin outside.

Back to searching for more foam for the briefcase.

It’s a pity that you didn’t come across a tatty suitcase that the aluminium case could have been put in. It’s also a shame that we even have to think about and take such precautions in case of being burgled.  Neutral

Had some spare time today so thought I would sort out my storage problem . Rather than mess about with foam I decided to use a Yoga mat ( actually cheaper than foam) . Firstly I made a template using some old wallpaper and then started cutting out the mat ,

I needed to have 4 mats on top of each other to make it deep enough for the briefcase .

I used double sided tape to glue the mats together

As you can see the bottom row is longer this is so that leather strapped watches will fit in and rather than have everything showing I cut the top layer of the may smaller so that the straps simply tuck underneath nice and snug

I used a thin layer of foam and glued it to the lid so that protects the watches when the briefcase is closed
